Excel watermarks done right
Microsoft Excel has never shipped a real watermark button. The official workaround forces you into the Header & Footer dialog, which only stamps printed pages, doesn't rotate pictures, and doesn't repeat across sheets. ExcelMaster Watermark fixes all of that in your browser: text or image, all sheets at once, diagonal or tile layouts, and a print-only toggle when you want the watermark to disappear from the screen but persist on every printout.

Frequently asked questions
Will the watermark show up on every page when I print?
Yes. With the default Screen & print mode, the watermark sits on top of every used range; with Print only mode, it's wired into the PageSetup header so it stamps every printed page automatically — no setup per sheet required.
Can I add my company logo as a watermark?
Yes. Choose Custom and upload a PNG, JPG, SVG, BMP, GIF, or WebP image. We rasterise SVG on the server before embedding so the file works in every Excel version, including older XLS.
Does this remove protections or change my data?
No. We add new shapes (or header pictures) and re-save the file. Cell values, formulas, formats, named ranges, and macros are preserved exactly.
Can the watermark be removed later?
Yes. Every shape we add is named ExcelMaster_Watermark. You can re-upload the file and our remove-watermark tool (coming soon) will strip them surgically without touching the rest of your shapes.
Is my file safe to upload?
Uploads use TLS 1.3 encryption. Files are processed in isolated workers, never read by humans, and auto-deleted within 60 minutes. We do not train AI models on uploaded data.
Do you watermark all sheets at once, or just the active sheet?
All sheets by default. Use Skip first sheet / Skip last sheet to keep the cover page and appendix clean — a common pattern in financial reports.
Is this really a security feature?
Watermarks are about branding and intent (DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, INTERNAL) — not DRM. A determined recipient can still strip them. For tamper-proof, audit-grade document protection, see ExcelMaster Agent.
What's the difference between this and Excel's built-in Header & Footer Picture?
Excel's native picture can't rotate, doesn't repeat across sheets, isn't available in Excel for the web, and only shows in print preview. We support rotation, all sheets, the full browser, and three render modes.
What file sizes do you support?
Up to 50 MB per file on the free tier. Most workbooks are under 5 MB. Larger files are processed in seconds thanks to streaming pipelines.
Is it really free?
Yes. No signup, no daily limit on text/preset watermarks, no quality cap on the output. Image watermarks may require sign-up for very large batches in the future.
