Receipt OCR that actually understands receipts
Most free receipt-to-Excel tools dump raw OCR text into a single column and let you sort it out. ExcelMaster.ai's pipeline uses Aspose.OCR for character recognition, then runs a second AI calibration pass that pulls out merchant, date, total, tax, tip, line items, payment method, and currency into structured Excel cells. We handle Chinese fapiao (增值税专用 / 普通 / 电子发票) as a first-class case, automatic currency normalisation across 15 ISO 4217 codes, and the industry-blank scenario of multiple receipts in one photograph (auto-split into separate rows).

Is this really free?
Yes — no signup, no payment, no daily cap for the first beta. We run on the same backend that powers ExcelMaster's paid AI add-in for Excel.
What file types do you accept?
JPG, JPEG, PNG, HEIC/HEIF (iPhone), WebP, TIFF, BMP, and single-page PDF receipts. Up to 25 MB per file, up to 10 files at once.
How accurate is the extraction?
Industry-standard OCR + a Claude Sonnet 4.6 calibration pass. Field-level accuracy depends on the receipt — printed thermal receipts under good light score 95%+; faded carbon copies score lower. We never claim 100% — bring a phone-camera shot under decent light.
Do you store my receipts?
Original photo files are auto-deleted from our servers within 24 hours. Extracted JSON is held only for the active session. We do not train models on user receipts.
How does multi-receipt mode work?
When the OCR text contains multiple merchant headers / page breaks / 'Thank you' transitions, the AI splits the result into separate rows in the Excel. One photo of three receipts becomes three rows.
Why is fapiao support a big deal?
Chinese 增值税发票 / 普通发票 / 电子发票 has unique fields (开票方 / 销售方 / 纳税人识别号 / 校验码) and tax rates (13/9/6/0%) that Western tools either ignore or get wrong. We treat fapiao as first-class with a dedicated prompt + currency lock to CNY.
What currencies are supported for normalisation?
USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CNY, KRW, BRL, AUD, CAD, CHF, INR, HKD, SGD, MXN, TRY. The FX snapshot date is recorded in the workbook footer; for trading-day rates plug in your own FX feed.
Can I edit the extracted data before downloading?
Coming in Sprint A.5 (next 2 weeks). Right now you get a downloadable .xlsx; cell-level editing in the result page is on the roadmap.
Does this work on mobile?
Yes — the upload box accepts your phone camera directly. On iOS the page uses the native HEIC pipeline; on Android the photo upload stays JPG.
Is my data sent overseas?
ExcelMaster.ai's tools-api runs on EU infrastructure. The AI calibration step calls our LLM proxy, which routes to Anthropic / OpenAI-compatible providers per locale. We do not advertise 'data never leaves your computer' — that would be misleading; the pipeline does upload to our servers.
What if the LLM returns garbage?
Our pipeline always emits a downloadable Excel — even if the AI step fails, a regex scaffold (total + date + merchant) gives you a usable starting point. The result page flags 'degraded' mode so you know to verify.
Will the Excel I download work in ExcelMaster Add-in?
Yes — and the Add-in adds full expense report automation (auto-categorise, monthly P&L pivot, VAT-ready summaries). One-click import is on the result page after download.
